Frequently asked questions.

What should I expect when I arrive for the first time?

We’ll ask you to fill in your details and sign a waiver, and take your medical history. Please arrive at least 10 minutes before the sessions to make sure you’re ready to start the class on time. Shoes should be worn at all times when not on the mats; this is to maintain hygiene and prevent skin infections.

What do I bring to my first session?

For your first class you should bring a tight-fitting t-shirt or rash guard, and some leggings/shorts. For your first class you won’t need a Gi, but if you choose to sign up we will be happy to recommend some great brands. You should also bring a water bottle and all jewellery will need to be removed before the session.

I’m a complete beginner, what will my first class be like?

We will start with a short warm-up, followed by some technique and drills. Towards the end of the class, we will do some live training; we’ll show you what this means! You can opt to watch this part of the session, but most people find this the funnest part!

What does Fundamentals and Advanced mean?

Fundamentals cover core concepts and principles that underpin BJJ, including basic escapes, positions and submissions. Advanced goes into much more detail, focusing on more challenging movements and techniques.
